POLSON — A three-hour standoff at a Kings Point home on March 12 ended with no one injured. The incident began when Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of an abandoned vehicle half on, half off King’s Point Road at about 2:44 a.m. Deputies attempted to contact the vehicle’s owner but couldn’t reach him. They did reach a friend, who was out of state. She received a call from the vehicle owner and felt that he might be suicidal, according to a press release from Lake County Sheriff Jay Doyle.

When LCSO deputies arrived at the vehicle owner’s house on Kings Point Road about 4:18 a.m., they saw a man with a high-powered rifle inside the residence.

While officers called in additional law enforcement and established a perimeter around the house, four shots were fired, but Doyle said it wasn’t clear if the shots were fired at the officers.

The Flathead SWAT team was contacted and asked to respond if needed, but verbal contact was made with the male in the house. The Polson resident, Glen Smith, 67, was taken into custody without incident., and the SWAT team was asked to stand down.

Smith was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center for evaluation.
