he Polson tennis team played just one match last week, but made the most of it. On Thursday in Ronan, Polson's girls swept Ronan and Polson's boys almost did the same.

Jane Probst cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory against the human backboard of Ronan's Amber Metzger in the number one singles match. Erika Nunlist won the number two singles match 6-0, 6-0, as did Karmen Borchers at number four singles.

Josie Benedetti had to work a lot harder to win her number three singles match, going three sets to beat Ronan's Taylir Courville 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

Kayla and Kendyall Rochin beat Darian Leo and Katelyn Matkovich in the number one doubles match 6-1, 6-0, while Jordan Quinn and Audra Engebretson won the number two doubles match 6-2, 6-2. Mackenzie Clay and Whitney Zimmerman cruised 6-0, 6-0 at number three doubles.

Polson's Matt Roberts won the boys' number one singles match 6-0, 6-1 over Austin Butler, while Hayden Congdon picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at number two. Teammates Christian McCurdy and Andrew Storro also won in number three and four singles, respectively.

In doubles play, Shad Giles and Justin Evertz cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Butler and Hunter Shima in the number one match. Will Davey and Ian Laimbeer lost a three-setter (6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-3) at number two doubles, while Reed Hovenkotter and Sam Peel picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at number three doubles.

"Solid performance by both the boys and girls," head coach Bob Hislop said. "Both number one singles players (Roberts and Probst) played smart matches with very few unnecessary errors."

He added that all three girls' doubles team played very efficiently.

"All of the boys' and girls' doubles teams are improving steadily, but (we) still have a lot of work to do," Hislop said.

Polson's junior varsity squad did well last week, too. Polson's JV dualed Columbia Falls on Monday and Saturday, winning 16 of 18 matches on Monday and 13 of 18 matches on Saturday.

Polson hosts Whitefish for a dual on Friday. The Pirates then travel to Hamilton and Corvallis for two road duals on Saturday.
