Edward McGreevey

RONAN — Edward McGreevey died in Ronan Mt. on Sept. 12, 2014, following a lengthy illness during which time his loving family cared him for. Ed was born on Feb. 27, 1931, in Anaconda to Hazel and Patrick McGreevey. He attended grade school and high school in Anaconda before entering the University of Portland in 1949. Ed joined the U.S. Army in 1950 and served in the United States and France until 1952. Upon completion of military service, Ed attended the University of Great Falls, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 1954.

Ed began a career in real estate and appraising in Anaconda with his father’s company, McGreevey Insurance and Real Estate. He remained in Anaconda until 1991 when he moved to Ronan to operate Westmont Appraisal Company until 2014.

Ed enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an ardent outdoorsman. His summers were spent hiking into the many mountain lakes near his cabin. In the fall, Ed could be found at Elk Camp, bow hunting being his favorite activity.

He was very happy when spending time at the family cabin, commonly known as “Ed’s cabin.” He loved being in the outdoors and was happiest when with family.

Ed loved nature and his many dogs, often called his “other family.”

Anyone who knew Ed respected his kindness, honesty, and humble spirit.

Throughout his working career Ed was a member of the National Board of Real Estate Appraisers, Knights of Columbus, Elks, Hibernians, and other civic organizations

Ed is survived by his four children: Laurie Johnson of Portland, Leslie (Tom) Murphy of Great Falls, Dr. Ed (Brenda) McGreevey of Missoula, Greg (Tracy) McGreevey of Atlanta Ga.; former wife Dollie Kelly; a sister Lenore Prigge of Butte; a brother Dr. Frank (Laverne) McGreevey of Ronan; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his sons Mark and Patrick; a son in-law Alan Johnson; his parents; sisters Marie, Virginia, and Rita; brothers Dr. James McGreevey and Dr. Don McGreevey.

Funeral arrangements will be held at Schneider Funeral Home of Ronan. A funeral mass will be held in Ronan at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Per Ed’s wishes, a memorial service will take place in Anaconda at his beloved Camp Glen-een.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to LifeSavers Animal Rescue (LSAR), PO Box 643, Polson, MT 59860.

The family deeply thanks Dr. Viscarra, the loving nursing staff of St. Luke Community Hospital, and Comfort Keepers of Kalispell, for their many kindnesses.

Condolences may be left for the family at Highway 63642 U.S Highway 93, Ronan, MT. 59864, or on the web at: www@shriderthompson.com.
