POLSON – For centerfielder Zeke Webster-Yaqui, receiving all-state is something he has been working for his whole Mariners career. After three straight years of being an all-conference recipient, hitting the next level was well worth the hard work.

“I don’t know what to say, it feels good,” Webster-Yaqui said. “I was pretty happy when I got it.”

Webster-Yaqui ended his four-year Mariners run with both a State and a Regionals title on his belt as well as various MVP’s in between. He’s now a part of the Hawks’ roster, playing baseball for Columbia Basin Community College, but for Webster-Yaqui it’s always been about his Mariners’ team.

“I want to give a shout out to Jami Hanson for keeping me in check and for keeping me under his wing and a shout out to all of the seniors and to Bradley (Pichler),” he said.

Webster-Yaqui also received an all-conference honor for centerfield along with three other athletes, including long time teammate Bradley Pichler. Pichler was honored with all-conference at third base.

Webster-Yaqui and Pichler played ball together since they were 12 years old, including four years with the Mariners.

Included in the all-conference picks were TJ Olson, first baseman for the M’s, and Derek Peel for pitching. Both Olson and Peel are eligible to return to the M’s roster next year.

For long time head coach Jami Hanson, it’s not a new thing to see several of his kids receive top-notch awards, but he is proud of each and every one of them.

“There’s not enough to be said about those boys,” Hanson said. “They worked hard, they deserved it. It just goes to show the dedication that they put into the program. Each one showed signs of leadership throughout the year and they led by example, not just vocal. Their leadership will definitely carry down through the returning kids because they showed you how you’re supposed to lead. I think they did an outstanding job.”
