Virginia Schmidt

ST. IGNATIUS — Virginia Schmidt passed away in her home, on Wednesday, Sept. 17, after a long and valiant battle against cancer. Her resiliency was incredible, showing us her true character of perseverance and fortitude.

Virginia was born in Kila on May 13, 1929, to Anna and Andrew Everett. She graduated from high school in Post Falls, Idaho. In 1950 she married Dean Schmidt. They had two children, Dee Ann and Mark. Virginia worked and retired from Hughes Aircraft in Fullerton, Calif., after 26 years of employment. During her later years of employment was when she first battled cancer and had held it in remission for 40 years. They both retired and moved to Montana, settling in the Mission Valley where they began their “second career,” ranching. Virginia kept herself busy with gardening, crafts and baking her delicious pies, which she was renowned for at her and her daughter’s business, the Rose Bud Deli in Ronan.

She also traveled with her family frequently to Mexico and loved boating on Flathead Lake.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dean and four brothers and two sisters. She was the longest survivor of her immediate family.

Virginia’s daughter Dee Ann Brockmeyer (Linze); son Mark (Kathy), all of St. Ignatius, and 3 grandchildren: Kelsey Gray (Loren); Korey Schmidt and Kasey Schmidt, all residing in Kalispell, survive her.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Oct. 4, at the Ninepipe Lodge Restaurant in Charlo from 4-7 p.m. An optional potluck will be served. The family asks that any donations be sent to your local food bank or your local church.
