POLSON — Authentic homestyle Italian food, great portions and affordability are three goals Rick Moreno has met at Bambino’s Pizza and Pasta.

Located at 49628 U.S. Highway 93, Bambino’s is named for Rick and Elizabeth Moreno’s “bambinos” — children Venice, Gianni, Lucca and grandchildren Armani and Nico.

The colors in the restaurant are warm — olive and buttery gold — and the smell of Italian cooking tantalizes hungry customers.

Advertising has been word of mouth and Facebook since the Moreno ordered signs right after the Fourth of July but didn’t receive them until September.

Serving “just the recipes I grew up on,” Rick said Bambino’s also has an extensive Italian wine list and also serves beer.

With daily lunch and dinner specials, Bambino’s also serves surf and turf on Friday evenings and Tuscan prime rib on Saturday nights although sometimes they change it up to a 12 oz. ribeye with shrimp scampi fettuccine.

“Everything is made from scratch,” Rick said. “I use local pasta (from Country Foods); they make lasagna and ravioli noodles for us.”

Rick also buys veggies at the Polson Farmers Market.

As much as it is affordable to do so, “I do farm to fork as much as I can,” Rick said.

The Morenos stress good-sized portions. For instance with the spaghetti and meatballs, “you get a big, 4-ounce meatball.”

“I like the way we don’t nickel and dime people,” Rick said, by serving salad and bread with lunches and dinners instead of charging people extra.

Bambino’s offers catering, a separate room for meetings and private parties, even delivery to local businesses with a $15 minimum order and, yes, a bambinos’ menu.

The Italian eatery is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday and closed Sundays. Bambino’s Pizza and Pasta’s number is 406 319-2100.
