Editor,

I just wanted to say that I’m a faithful Valley Journal reader, all of your stories and articles are a joy to read until today. I read the article about medical marijuana on the front page of the April 1 issue and I just have to say, the article was not concise on a few key points.

One was there was not much published research on the positive medical effects of marijuana. On the contrary, there are several published documents to be found on the Internet that proves the medical benefits.

The article goes on to say about marijuana containing three times the amount of tar than cigarettes and 50 percent more carcinogens, but what you failed to say is that there are several other ways to medicate like tinctures, edible foods and vaporizers, which all are completely safe ways to use marijuana.

Then you go on to say the only positive was for the use in people with glaucoma, what about HIV, chronic migraines, chemotherapy, back pain, eating disorders — should I go on?

I don’t understand how someone who is a doctor prescribes medical marijuana and then says there is no evidence to support the use. I’ll bet he took the patients money though.

How can you even compare alcohol to marijuana in the same sentence the way you described “Intoxicating akin to alcohol?” They are totally two different things with different affects.

This article was written like marijuana in this state is just for recreational use, chosen by the words in this article. Plainly said the research was not done to the level it needed to be.

I believe people need to find out the truth for themselves and stop believing what people say and are being told and we as a people need to re-educate ourselves and stop listening to what the main stream media says and find out what the truth really is.

Of course there is going to be more negative than positive on the medical side of things. All the prescription drugs on the market with there massive side affect are being pushed by the medical community, lets not forget the millions spent by pharmaceutical companies lobbying the medical community to push their drugs.

Maybe if one stood back for a second and ponder the thought that medical marijuana is a business which in its infancy stage could actually help the economy, but until there are lobbyists with millions of dollars to push the medical community into supporting it, we must change peoples minds another way.
