PABLO — The valley’s best were given one more chance this season to suit up and lace up their basketball sneakers to play the game they love at the 15th annual Mission Mountain Classic Saturday night.
Players from Arlee, Mission, Charlo, Ronan, Polson, Bigfork, Hot Springs and Plains were nominated and selected to the team by the area’s coaches.
In both the girls’ game and the boys’ game the White team was able to pull away from the Blue team in the second half to secure the victory. In the girls game the White team outscored the Blue team 31-19 in the second half for a 54-38 victory. In the boys’ game, the White team put up 61 points in the second half for a 114-100 victory.
But the Mission Mountain Classic, which pitted teammate against teammate and represented three classes of schools, wasn’t about the final score. It was a chance for the local stars to showcase their skills; and the all-stars didn’t disappoint.
For many of the players the classic was their last chance to put on their high school jersey.
Charlo senior Houston Blevins led all scorers for the night, finishing with 19 points to help the White team seal the 14-point victory. Blevins was joined on the team with Viking senior Chance Firestone, who finished with seven points. Arlee senior Kody Morigeau scored 12 points for the White team, and had to play against senior teammates Kyle Felsman and John Sansavere. Felsman finished with 10 points and Sansavere added seven for the Blue team.
Mission senior Jorren Gies, one of the few players that was able to dunk the ball in the game, finished with six points for the White team. Jake Durglo, another Bulldog senior, put in 10 points for the Blue team. Two Eagle River senior James Maestas led the Blue team with 17 points.
Arlee senior Chelsea Allaire, Charlo senior Stephanie Maughan, Polson senior Nicole Davey and Two Eagle River senior Jaylen Carpentier all suited up for the Blue team in a losing effort.
Mission’s Adessa Durglo led the Blue team with 12 points.
The Chiefs were represented by Justin Dustybull, Lucas Black, Kevin Wroblewski and JJ Tanner. Black had 15 points for the Blue team and Dusty Bull finished with 14 points for the White team. Jonna Grant and Alice Van Gunten represented the Maidens.
Besides Allaire, the Scarlets were also represented by Mahalia Hendren. Hendren, the only freshman in the game, finished with four points.
Breanne Kelley, Kyle Bagnell and Vince DiGiallonardo represented Polson and Kyla Mitchell represented Mission. Charlo’s Jaris Kelley and Polson’s Sierra Pete were named to the team, but couldn’t play because of injuries.
