Maidens fall after comeback
RONAN — After falling into the loser bracket with a first match loss, the Maidens came back to win a couple just missing out on Saturday play.
Game one pitted the Maidens against Thompson Falls in the third match of Thursday’s opening day of Divisional play, all taking place on the Maidens home-hosted court.
Though the Maidens won the first set, Thompson Falls came back to take control over the Maidens, pushing Ronan down to the opposite bracket in the 1-3 loss.
Kendra Starkel put on her fighting face with 11 kills and 27 digs for the Maidens.
Day two of the tourney, the Maidens rallied 10 sets in game two and three to pick up wins beginning with a victory against Plains.
Beating the Trotters every other set and finding the 3-2 win in set five, Starkel led her team in kills with 16 and, along with Danielle Richwine, added 18 digs. McKenzie Cates had five aces for her team while Kenzie Dulmes helped with five of Ronan’s 12 blocks.
In yet another long match, the Maidens proceeded to follow up the first win with another, taking down the Eureka Lions, 3-2.
Starkel scored a team high 11 kills and 30 digs for the Maidens with Jordyn Clairmont chipping in 23 assists. Dulmes served five aces for her team.
Ending their run in the heartbreaking final match, the Maidens fell in the late game Friday against already challenged Thompson Falls, but came up short 1-3.
Individual stats for the final game were not reported.
The Maidens will end their season with an 8-13 record.
