POLSON — Brody needs a bulletproof vest. Brody is the new Polson Police canine officer, and the Mission Bay Wednesday Quilters are doing something about Brody’s vest — they stitched a quilt, the “doggone quilt,” and are raffling it off to raise money.
The ladies call their group a Stitch in Time, and they selected a pattern called Diagonal Brick by Kaffe Fassett and used Kaffe Fasset fabrics to make the stunning quilt.
Brody is new to Polson crime fighting and replaces Llop. Llop took early retirement due to health concerns and returned to his trainer, who found him a family home.
Now Brody, who is also trained in narcotics and tracking, is on the job. A 4-year-old yellow lab, Brody trains with PPD Officer Juan Maso.
“Brody loves people; he loves attention. All he wants to do is play,” Maso said.
A high-energy Brody perceives his training as play, according to Maso.
So to keep that happy, wired dog safe, Stitch in Time quilters will be selling raffle tickets on their Kaffe Fassett quilt to earn approximately $1,000, which is what safety vests for dogs run, Maso said. Tickets are $1 apiece six for $5, and members and local businesses will be selling tickets.
