POLSON — “The baby slept through it all,” Abigail Feiler said.

Feiler was talking about an accident she, her children and her younger sister were in on Dec. 23 about four miles south of Niarada.

“I was going home on Highway 28 when I hit black ice,” Abigail Feiler said.

Feiler remembered thinking there was nothing she could do. Her car slid into a guardrail, bounced off and did a 180.

“It was so scary,” Feiler said.

The car came to rest upside down in the ditch. The airbags went off so “there was a horrible smell” Feiler said.

Since the children were securely strapped into their seat belts her daughter, one and a half, her son, who was about two weeks old, her sister, Emily, 12, and Feiler were all okay. Feiler said Emily did have a cut on her left cheekbone.

Because she had the kids and herself buckled in and probably saved their lives, Feiler is the newest winner of the Saved by the Belt Award said Diane Ward, Buckle Up Montana, Lake County Coordinator.

Montana Highway Patrol Sergeant Randy Owens nominated Feiler for the award.

Ward said “Randy is such a good support for Saved by the Belt.”

Feiler will receive a certificate, a button and a one-year subscription to Mountain West Triple A.

Sgt. Owens commented that he would “rather give these (Saved by the Belt Award) out than a ticket.”
