Ronan Library asks for stocking help

RONAN – The Ronan Library needs some kind-hearted holiday elves to lend a hand to ensure local school children get treats and goodies.

Last year, the library took on ordering 350 stockings that are handed out to children in Bockman Park after the Ronan Parade of Lights. This year, a scheduling mix-up resulted in the library missing the deadline for posting the orders.

Librarian Michelle Fenger posted notices on the library doors and online asking for help on Nov. 18. By Friday, 194 stockings were completed. Most of those stockings were donated by Sylvia’s in Pablo.

“Other people have said that they will be making some for us, but we don’t know how many,” Fenger said. “We’re asking people to help us by donating stockings, sewing stockings up for us, donating fabric and thread or cutting out stockings. Then if anybody has anything they want to stuff stockings with, that would be great, too.”

On Friday, puffs of snowflakes filtered down in the evening light, a reminder that Christmas is on its way as volunteer Debbie Demarais and Ronan High School sophomore Casey Walter cut stocking after stocking for the giveaway program. The two helpers were full of holiday cheer as they worked.

“It’s actually kind of fun to do things like this,” Demarais said.

Fenger said the outpouring of support has been fantastic and she is thankful the community has stepped up to help fill the void.

“It’s just incredible,” Fenger said.

Santa’s helpers can drop off donations at the library on the corner of Second Avenue and Main Street in Ronan. The library is open Monday-Friday 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. For more information call (406) 676-3682.

The Ronan Parade of Lights will take place Dec. 19.
