The Grinch visited the historic Big Arm Schoolhouse on Dec. 13. It was so “Grinch-y” in the building, people could swear they saw a tuft of the Grinch’s acid-green fur disappear around a corner.

Kids were invited to decorate a cupcake, already frosted green; string some beads for a necklace; race toy polar bears; skewer strawberries, grapes and bananas to form a fruit “Grinch”; create an ornament for the Christmas tree; play ring toss and other games and even watch “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.”

Aniya Rosenbrock, 5, with help from her mom and Nancy Foster, made a glittery-green Christmas ball with a red heart glued onto it and a sparkling Grinch face ornament.

Aniya said she’d seen the Grinch movie.

Her favorite part was “at the end when the Grinch gets the Christmas spirit.”

Foster, a former schoolteacher, said she needs a kid fix so she and the Big Arm elves — including Bonnie Eddy and Darlene Hoyt — organize many of the children’s events at the schoolhouse, including Halloween and an Easter egg hunt.

The elves also provided food to fuel the activities — grinch-green punch, pale-green cookies, Jello jigglers and gingerbread people with red-hot belly buttons.

Sharing, fun and new friends all bolster Dr. Seuss’ message in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”:  “Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?”
