POLSON — The Maidens were able to score against the Lady Pirates, but couldn’t stop their fast and athletic attack in a 50-32 loss in Polson Saturday night.

The 32 points Saturday, was the Maidens’ highest offensive output since a 42-36 loss to the Lady Bulldogs in Whitefish Jan. 28.

“We got some shots up and we got shots to fall,” Ronan coach Doug Fisher said. “We just executed our game plan and had some kids step up and play well ... We got better guard play and were able to move the ball around and get into our offense.”

Junior Jonna Grant led the Maidens with eight points. Courtney Clairmont and Ashley Grandchamp finished with six points apiece and Alice Van Gunten and Tailyr Irvine each added four points.

While the Maidens were able to score on the Lady Pirates, they couldn’t handle the fast-pace Polson offense.

“They’re very athletic and very quick. If you take a nap, you’re going to get caught. They like to push the ball up court and can beat you in transition,” Fisher said.

The Maidens’ 27 turnovers helped the Lady Pirates’ transition game.

The Maidens (1-16) will open the Northwest A Divisional Tournament against Whitefish at 6 p.m. Thursday at Glacier High School. The Maidens’ lone win this season came against the Lady Bulldogs.

“I think it would be a great confidence builder,” Fisher said of getting a postseason win.

“It would be a big momentum builder and a huge step in the right direction,” Fisher said.
