POLSON — Thieves removed the automated teller machine from the front entrance of Community Bank in Polson early Friday morning. The theft was discovered at approximately 6 a.m. when Polson Police officers and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an intrusion alarm. Security video revealed two men had stolen the machine, containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

“We found what was left of the ATM out on Highway 28,” said John Stevens, assistant Polson Police chief.

A green Chevy Z71 pickup was seen in the area about the time of the heist, but police don’t know if it was involved.

Mary Strozzi, vice president and chief operating officer of Community Bank, asks customers to use the ATM at Super 1 Foods and ATMs in Ronan and Pablo.

No one was hurt, and Strozzi said that was the best scenario for the bank. She was also proud of both bank staff and law enforcement response.

The Polson Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating the suspects. If anyone saw anything near Community Bank at the time of the theft, please contact the PPD via the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at (406) 883-7301.
