DARBY – Improved blocking by the offensive line combined with solid rushing and passing, helped the Charlo Vikings (2-2) football squad blow out Darby (1-3) on the road Friday.

Tra Ludeman continued to be an offensive threat, carrying the ball 16 times for 163 yards and a touchdown. In the air, Ludeman completed 10 of 17 passes for 133 yards, including a touchdown, and returned a kickoff 75 yards for another touchdown.

Solid blocking by the Viking offensive line helped Jacen Petersen rush 18 times for 115 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Stephen Delaney capped off a good performance with four receptions for 84 yards and a safety and fumble recovery for a touchdown on defense.

Webb O’Neil picked off three passes in the win to help shut down the Darby offense.

Charlo jumped out to a 24-6 lead in the first quarter, but Darby clawed their way back into the game during the second quarter, scoring 18 points to give Charlo a six point advantage at the half.

The Vikings’ defense turned up the heat in the third quarter, holding Darby scoreless. This allowed the Charlo offense to go to work, putting up an additional 30 points by the beginning of the fourth quarter to lead 55-18.

Charlo’s offense had 48 rushes for 341 yards and four touchdowns.

“We were able to find a nice tempo on offense and our execution was much better,” head coach Mike Krahn said. “Our offensive line really did a better job of sustaining their blocks this week, allowing our running backs to have some longer runs.”

According to Krahn, the team had a few key injuries, but sophomores Ryan Fullerton and Zach Daugherty rose to the occasion to be big-time contributors for the team.

The Vikings finish their three-week-long stint on the road this Saturday, Sept. 24, at Victor (3-1).

“Victor is a good team with some good size,” Krahn said. “We are expecting a battle for one of four playoff spots.”

“We are continuing to work on eliminating our mistakes and polishing up our execution.”
