Long-time Mission Valley resident Bud Cheff Sr. was the honorary speaker Thursday evening at the Ronan Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet, held at the Mission Mountain Country Club. Cheff sat down with St. Luke Community Relations Director Wayne Fuchs in a question and answer session to speak about life in the valley during its early development.
He recalled stories of a much different time, when life was much tougher. He reminisced about riding a horse carriage school bus with a wood stove inside to keep from freezing, and helping construct the Kerr Dam. These kinds of experiences molded Cheff into a very successful guest ranch owner. Cheff Guest Ranch and Outfitters was founded in the early 1930s. Fuchs recalled being treated like royalty during a packing trip into the Bob Marshall wilderness..
At the conclusion of his talk, Cheff Sr. was awarded with the Ronan Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award, while Fuchs was awarded the 2011 Key Person Award.
