POLSON — The Lake County Board of Health is now accepting nominations for the sixth annual Virginia Reber Board of Health award. This award honors a county resident or entity that has furthered public health principles in Lake County and the Flathead Reservation. Some suggested public health areas of involvement include, but are not limited to: 

maternal/child health; environmental health; dental health; communicable disease, fitness and nutrition; aging population; individuals with disabilities; injury prevention; community health, or health education.

The Lake County Board of Health Award is named after Virginia Reber, RN, Public Health Nurse and pioneer of public health in Lake County. She is responsible for laying the foundation for the growth and development of what has become the public health services program in Lake County today.

Previous award recipients include the Arlee Water/Sewer District (2010), Polson Running (2011), Ruth Horton (2012), Janet Sucha (2013), and Dr. Cara Harrop (2014).

Please keep in mind the following criteria when nominating an individual or organization for this award:

The nominee:

• Must live or work in Lake County or on the Flathead Reservation.

• Promotes principles of public health in professional, public, or volunteer work in Lake County and/or the Flathead Reservation

• Networks or collaborates with community groups to help provide or promote public health to improve life for others

•  Promotes a positive image of public health in Lake County/Flathead Reservation

• Health Department employees and individuals who work in the community health or public health fields are not eligible. 

The Public Health Action/Contribution:

•  Addresses a public health concern

• Is creative or unique in its approach to a public health issues

• Significantly enhances the image of public health in Lake County

• Contributes to health promotion efforts in Lake County
