Laurie Jean Davis Hahn

RONAN — Laurie Jean Davis Hahn passed away the evening of Feb. 16, 2015, at the St. Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan, Montana.

Laurie was born April 6, 1936, to Walter and Erma Davis of Polson, Montana. Laurie had a love and passion for horses. Her high school yearbook quote is from Shakespeare, “A horse! A horse! My Kingdom for a horse.” She lived this her entire life. During her active years she was either on a horse or drawing them and was very talented at both. Laurie participated in O-mok-see and did very well, often placing first. She used to say that she and her Shorty horse were hard to beat. During this time she was elected rodeo queen.

Laurie graduated from Polson High School in 1954 and went to college in Dillon, Montana, for a time, but decided what she was studying wasn’t the career for her. She worked with her father on the work barge building docks around Flathead Lake for many years. Laurie worked many jobs from the barge, driving dump truck for her brother on road construction, driving grain truck for Curt Van Voast, and her last job, that was passed down from her parents, Highway contract mail carrier for the Post Office in Polson, Montana. Laurie retired in 1998. Many will know her as “their mail carrier” on the shoreline and Irvine Flats.

In the early 60’s, she was working at the “Hut Café,” where she met Douglas Hahn from Ronan, Montana. They married June 27, 1963, and in 1969 had a daughter Korinne (Kitten) Hahn. Kitten was Laurie’s world for many years. Then her granddaughter Amanda Jean Hahn was born in 1989 and shared that spot with Kit. Laurie was an amazing mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Laurie is survived by her daughter Korinne Cannon (Vinton) and granddaughter Amanda Hahn; currently of Delta, Colorado; sister Rachel Bahm of Polson; and brother Jim Davis (Denise) of Lakeside, Montana; nephews Shawn Davis (Terry), Travis Bahm (Jeanne), and Dustin Bahm (Devan); and numerous great nieces and nephews. Amongst surviving cousins is her best friend Charlotte Gaustad who stayed by her side through it all.

Preceding her in death were her parents Walt and Erma Davis; all her blood related aunts and uncles; her brother-in-law Ronald Bahm; and her sister-in-law Maureen Davis.

We will have a memorial service for Laurie this coming summer 2015.
