RONAN —The Maidens couldn’t recover from a disastrous third quarter and fell to the Lady Loggers 44-20 at home Saturday.

Just trailing 20-13 at halftime, the Maidens were outscored 19-3 in the third frame and went on to drop their fifth conference game in the row.

“We just couldn’t make a shot,” Ronan coach Doug Fisher said of the third quarter. “All of sudden it was like bang, bang, bang for them and we just couldn’t answer.”

Once Libby built a big lead he said that his team became frustrated. “For the first time all season the girls let down a bit,” Fisher said. Adding that the one-win Maidens have plenty to hold their heads high about.

In the first meeting against the Lady Loggers, the Maidens allowed 55 points and Lady Logger leading scorer Jackie Mee to score 29 points. Saturday, the Maidens held Libby to 44 points and contained Mee, allowing her to only score 14, seven of which came in the third quarter.

Once the Maidens start shooting better, they’ll start winning the games that they hold their opponents to 44 points, Fisher said.

“We shoot 30, 35 percent we win the game,” Fisher said.

The Maidens only connected on seven of 41 shots, missing all eight of their 3-point attempts.

“That’s just not going get it done,” Fisher said of the Maidens’ shooting, “But it’s something that we can fix,” he added.

Alice Van Gunten led the Maidens with eight points. She also pulled down eight rebounds. Jonna Grant finished with five points and Nina Orozco added four.

The Maidens end the regular season with two home games Friday and Saturday.
