BOZEMAN – After a pair of very close games, the Pirates have ended their State run, going two and out and finishing their season at 10-13 overall.

In Thursday’s opener, played at Montana State University in Bozeman, the Pirates narrowly missed the opportunity to take down top-seeded Dillon. But a low scoring third quarter decided the Pirates fate and they never fully recovered the point spread, resulting in the Pirates falling to the Beavers, 56-59.

Pirates Matthew Rensvold and Andrew Curley each scored 15 points to lead their team at the basket. Derek Peel chipped in nine.

In the consolation bracket Friday, Polson fought hard but two points sealed the Pirates fate as they ended the season with a 52-54 loss to Billings Central.

After falling behind in the first half of play, the Pirates rallied to come within two for the victory but it wasn’t enough, sending the Pirates home for the year.

Rensvold, Curley and Tanner Wilson all scored double digits in the close contest with Wilson leading the Pirates, netting 14. Rensvold and Curley each added 12 apiece.

The Pirates will retire five seniors but look forward to an arsenal of up and comers to fill in the gaps, giving the Pirates a bright outlook for next year’s roster.
