Editor,
The Flathead Reservation Human Rights Coalition, Inc. is celebrating our 20th year of offering presentations to the public that highlight the unique and diverse community we are proud to be a part of. We will be sponsoring a potluck and presentation each month.
Our first event will be Feb. 24 at the Senior Citizen’s Center in St. Ignatius. The optional potluck will begin at 6 p.m. and at approximately 6:45, Travis McAdam, Executive Director of the Montana Human Rights Network will speak on the Resurgence of Right Wing Extremists in Montana and nationally.
“From white supremacists to the Tea Parties, we are seeing a surge in right-wing activism geared towards mobilizing fear and resentment in Montana,” McAdam said. “It’s important that Montanans understand what is going on in their communities. Over the last 20 years, we have repeatedly seen right-wing extremists hide behind erroneous interpretations of the Constitution and issue shallow calls to patriotism. In the past, they’ve given us the Montana Freemen and the Oklahoma City bombing. Montana communities should not be fooled again.”
FRHRC hopes this presentation will give people a framework to understand what is going on in their community, explain where much of the current rhetoric is coming from, and why people need to respond.
Future topics will be Public Education, Racism, Sexism, Ageism and Classism, What are Human Rights?, and Building Community. The public is cordially invited to attend any and all presentations.
