PABLO – In a battle where-rivals shared a bench and teammates were pitted against teammates, the Mission Valley All-Stars finished up the basketball season with contest of wits and a true example of sportsmanship and fun.

Split into the Lights and the Darks, with the Lights sporting home jerseys and the darks wearing road solids, athletes were chosen by their coaches to represent their teams playing against the best of the best of the valley in the All-Star game played at the Joe McDonald Center March 24.

The girls took the court first and provided the fans with what they came to see, a good old fashion basketball showdown with plenty of smiles, giggles and high fives.

Playing two 20-minute halves, the Lights went into the short half time break with the 11-point lead and never looked back, toppling the Darks 74-58.

Led by Charlo’s Shayna Nagy and Ronan’s Aspen Jore, the Lights posted four girls with double digs. Nagy tossed in 16 while Jore came in close behind with 15. Josey Carr off of the Hot Springs Lady Savage roster scored 14 and Lady Pirate Skyla Krantz chipped in an additional 10 to help launch the Lights to victory.

Jore also went home with more than a victory dance, she also grabbed the team MVP for the Lights. Hailey Phillips of Plains took home MVP for the Darks after high scoring her team with 12.

For the boys it was all about the fancy passing with the “assist” taking center stage.

Though the Darks had the edge going into half time it was the Lights, led by Ronan’s Cedric Earthboy’s 26 big ones, that scored 65 in the second half to steal away the 113-105 win.

Adding to Lights high score was Warrior Justis Haynes with 20, Plains’ Kyle Revier had 12 and Arlee Senior Riley Rogers finished up with 11.

The Darks were led by Mission’s Aaron Fisher-Ahenakew, who netted 22. Other Darks that scored in the double digits were Aaron Baker of Plains who scored 16, Pirate Andrew Curley and Ronan’s Colton McCrea each scored 14 and Warriors Patrick BigSam and Tyler Tanner scoring 11 and 10 respectfully.

MVPs went to the Lights’ Earthboy who led all scorers for the evening and to Hot Springs’ Trevor Paro for the Darks.

After an evening of “kissing the backboard” and “coast to coast” action as called over the loud speaker, both athletes and fans enjoyed one final contest of hardwood action, finishing up the season on a lighter note while reminding everyone that sometimes it’s more than just a win; it’s about no pressure, new friendships and fun at the end of the day.
