Valley runners raise $2,000 to benefit local boy

POLSON — On Saturday morning, 123 valley residents faced frigid temperatures at the Second Annual Jingle Jog, raising $2,000 for Layne Lozeau. Layne Lozeau has a rare disease called adrenoleukodystrophy.
Participants in the event ran or walked the five kilometers from Century 21 to Hack Road, following U.S. Highway 35 in Polson.
The runners didn’t seem to mind the freshly fallen snow or the ice beneath it as they ran through the town and along Flathead Lake. And the 15 degree weather didn’t bother some of the younger participants either, sporting shorts and thin tee-shirts. Despite not expecting any children, volunteers were happy to have several youngsters out, running energetically through the icy morning.
The volunteers were hopeful that everyone would be careful on the icy and snowy pathway and roads. And much to the participant's and volunteer’s relief, no injuries were attained.
The volunteers were also thrilled to have received $240 in donations from private individuals who did not run in the event, but wanted to contribute in some way.
Several of the Pablo Elementary school teachers were in attendance, sporting warm clothes, uplifting spirits and children. They joked that they were in competition with the teachers and staff of K. William Harvey to see which school would have more event supporters.
Lozeau is a student at K. William Harvey Elementary School in Ronan, but previously attended Pablo Elementary School.
