ST. IGNATIUS — At the Jan. 5 St. Ignatius Town Council meeting, Judge Sharon Richardson administered oaths of office to returning Mayor Charley Gariepy and council president Rod Arlint, as well as new council member Mack McConnell.

Gariepy also thanked appointed council member Mary Klawitter and former council member Amy Miller, who was not present, for their service to the town.

The council voted to send the Lake County Commissioners a letter stating that the town’s planning board would like to take over “in-house” planning duties, instead of continuing to have the Lake County Planning Board perform those duties, and have St. Ignatius’ share of planning millage remitted to the town. Polson and Ronan have already taken similar actions, city clerk Lee Ann Gottfried said.

The council also voted to split 2.5 acres owned by Terry Simkins into three parcels, as approved by the planning board.

Town resident Bernie Lovell voiced concerns about dangerous dogs roaming her neighborhood, and Gariepy said he is working on solving that problem as well as the Evelyn Carter condemned trailer “project.”

The next regular St. Ignatius Town Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at City Hall.
