BELGRADE – The Lady Pirates placed third at the Belgrade Invitational last weekend after falling in the semi-final, only to come back and beat Havre to pick up the bronze.

Kicking off the tourney Friday, the Lady Pirates bounced into the Saturday morning semi-final with ease after downing Shelby then Loyola-Sacred Heart in just six short innings between the two games. Due to tournament time constraints each game was a planned four innings with mercy rule going into effect after three.

Game one played against Shelby was a slam dunk for the Lady Pirates as they scooted around the bases to score 20 to Shelby’s 0.

Taylor Brackey, Hannah Fryberger and Kaelen Wall all hit homeruns in the blowout with Brackey posting four RBIs in her 3-4 effort at the dish.

A third inning 11-run pounce gained the Lady Pirates the 17-2 win over Loyola-Sacred Heart in game two.

Lady Pirate Kaelyn Smith smashed two triples and picked up a pair of RBIs after going 2-3. Sarah Rausch, Ashley Benson, Lydia Dupuis and Skyla Krantz all went 2-3 in the three innings of play with Rausch chipping in three runs batted in.

Saturday morning brought the Lady Pirates their first and only loss of the tournament as they fell to Conrad 1-2.

Polson’s only run came by a reaching on error only to cross home plate after Wall posted the only hit of the game achieving the RBI.

In their final showing of the tournament four hits sequenced together in the third inning put Polson on top and a final fourth inning run secured third place for the Lady Pirates as they sent Havre home packing 6-1.

Jaiden Toth, Wall, Smith, Dupuis and Rausch logged hits for the Lady Pirates.

The Lady Pirates will host Corvallis Saturday and then will hit the road Tuesday with a contest against Whitefish.
