Louise M. Grund
COLUMBUS — Louise M. Grund, 102, a well-known resident at Beartooth Manor in Columbus, Mont., passed away on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010.
Louise was born on Aug. 20, 1907 in Butte, Mont. to Charles and Victoria Grund.
She graduated from Butte Central High and Butte Business College. She was employed at Metals Bank in Butte, before moving to Ronan in 1944. She was employed at the former Hurts Drug Store and Consolidated Dairies in Ronan. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Alter Society and held an office in the Democratic Women’s Club of Lake County.
After she retired, she would child sit for friends and truly loved each and every one of her charges. Louise never married and always made a point of calling herself Miss Grund. Though she never married, she became a strong and much beloved, consistent and welcome presence in the lives of great nieces, and nephews and other family members from several generations. One of her famous sayings was “Don’t worry what everyone else is doing ... just be yourself!”
She lived in Ronan until 1998 when she moved to Joliet, Mont. to make her home with her niece, Martha Haverkamp. After an illness, she moved to Beartooth Manor in Columbus where her activities included socializing, daily events, and she especially loved her bingo. Louise was a devout Catholic and was never without her Rosary.
She made friends with many of her caregivers. She especially loved Vickie Pederson, who took special care of her after she broke her hip in April of 2006 and one particular great niece, Vicky Thompson (Bill), visited her almost every day and had her to their home nearly every holiday. She remained at Beartooth Manor until the Lord called her home.
She is survived by niece, Martha Haverkamp of Joliet; and two nephews Walter LeBrun of Elliston and Douglas LeBrun of Helena; as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Beartooth Manor for their care of Louise.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at Calvary Cemetery in Ronan, Mont. Smith Funeral Chapel of Columbus and Shrider-Thompson Mortuary of Ronan are in charge.
