Rogers wins Veterans Honor Guard rifle

News from the Veterans Honor Guard

POLSON — In March the Veterans Honor Guard began to raffle a Springfield M14 7.62/308. They purchased the rifle at Westland Seed and tickets were sold at $10 each, and the limit was set at only 600 tickets, making for some very good odds. At 10 a.m. June 20, the winning ticket was drawn. As luck would have it the winner was in the area and only took a few minutes to arrive and claim his prize. Sheriff Don Bell and Polson Mayor Heather Knutson were on hand to help keep things honest. Mayor Knutson with head turned, so as not to peek, drew the winning ticket and announced the winner. Honor Guard Commander Russ Harbin made the call to Darrel Rogers.

The Veterans Honor Guard would like to express their gratitude and thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket or generously gave a donation showing their support.

One hundred percent of all proceeds go to help provide funeral honors for our fallen veterans.

Rifle, ammunition raffles support veterans

News from Standing for the Fallen

RONAN — Marine Corps veteran Chuck Lewis, representing Standing for the Fallen, raffled two Smith and Wesson AR15 rifles and $1,000 worth of ammunition to raise money for wounded, disabled and homeless veterans. Nearly $10,000 was raised on the three raffles. The three tickets were drawn at the VFW Post 2986 in Polson following the Memorial Day parade, with Post Quartermaster/ Army Veteran Warren Lacy doing the honor of drawing the winning tickets. The winners of the rifles were Ron Swaney of Arlee and Aurelia Jackson of Polson. Troy Grovom of Polson won the $1,000 in ammunition.

“I’d like to thank the community for supporting our wounded, disabled and homeless veterans by participating in our 2015 raffle,” Lewis said, “and Ronan Sports and Western for their generous discount on the purchase of the firearms and ammunition.”

Standing for the Fallen supports individual veterans in need of medical and dental care, housing and home repairs while offering financial support for organizations that serve veterans, including Montana’s Military Order of the Purple Heart, Montana Wounded Warriors, K9 Care Montana, and Operation Valor.
