Editor,

Well, Tribal members, it’s time for an update on the latest if you are not informed. Some items are still pending and will be pending forever.

It doesn’t appear that we are going to be getting the remainder of the Salazar monies. It is being used in other areas the many individuals do not want monies spent like that.

First: 95 percent of Tribal members wanted 100 percent of the Salazar payments. Elders asked for 100 percent, but the powers to be at that time did not listen to Elders.

Second: Many individuals did not want the Dam. Elders voiced their opinion on the Dam and said no. No means no.

Third: Many individuals did not want the Casino. It appears the people in charge are not listening to Elders and Tribal members. The Casino is planned to be built near Gray Wolf because there is no LES presence on site so LES response time for emergencies will be slow. LES need help.

Fourth: A Casino was purchased along the river, which was contaminated and ram shacked. We were told that it was a bargain price of $2 million. Now it’s going to cost $2 million-plus in repairs. Tribal members will not see any revenue monies from that Casino. We need another Casino like another toe so as to stub our toe and fall flat on our face.

Fifth: This reservation has a major drug problem and needs a treatment center that covers all aspects of controlled substance abuse. Enough of the meetings, build a treatment center, save our afflicted Tribal members.

Sixth: Just the other day I know of two grandchildren who applied for summer hire. There were 200-plus youths applying for jobs. Only 72 passed the drug test. An investigation is needed regarding the ones who did not pass the drug test.

Now Mission Mart in Ronan was purchased, but no one can move in because there are zoning issues. Didn’t anyone research this before it was purchased?

This article is only the views and opinions of the writer.
