Editor,

Kudos to the Flathead Lakers and their sponsors for putting on the Poker Paddle on July 12. Not only was it a fun day on the lake; it was also a successful fundraiser to support the Student Education Program and ongoing community work to ensure clean, clear water. Our lake is a near pristine jewel and our watershed is vitally important; therefore, we need to support all efforts to fend off any present and future threats to water quality.

This event on Sunday was well planned, well executed, and enjoyed by all ages and abilities. When the windy weather kicked up some choppy waves, a short delay was called to rearrange the route with safety in mind. All of this was handled with aplomb. The paddling and poker were fun, the picnic lunch was delicious, the band (Dark Horse) was excellent, and the camaraderie of like-minded folk was most enjoyable.

Check out this great organization at www.Flatheadlakers.org and plan on joining us next year. Beg, borrow, or rent a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard and sign up for a good cause. Then plan on having good, clean, family fun in the water.
