POLSON —It’s a mile swim in Flathead Lake on a summer day, and it benefits the Flathead Lake Monsters swim team. What’s not to like about the 13th annual Water Daze?

The swim race will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, with registration at 11 a.m. at Boettcher Park and start time at 1 p.m. at Salish Point.

The Water Daze crew will provide transportation from Boettcher Park to the starting line, and the finish line will be at Boettcher Park, according to Sharon Murphy, office coordinator and instructor at Mission Valley Aquatic Center.

Boats, kayaks and other watercraft, including the Lake County Sheriff’s Office boat, will line the course in case a swimmer has trouble.

To preregister for Water Daze and ensure a T-shirt, swimmers can go into the MVA website at www.mvaquatics.org for an entry form or go into the Mission Valley Aquatics Center, 309 Ridgewater Drive, Polson, and sign up. The $25 fee goes up to $30 on the day of the race, Murphy said.

After the adult race, kids can participate in the free kids’ fun swim. There will also be activities for younger children, too, Murphy said. Swimmers are invited to a free barbecue, and families or friends who accompanied a swimmer are welcome at the barbecue for a donation.

The Flathead Lake Monsters swim team will use the funds for traveling to swim meets, hotels and food, uniforms and fees for entering the meets.
