POLSON — About 25 short dogs, fuzzy dogs, chubby dogs, tall dogs, shy dogs and their people attended Mission Valley Animal Shelter’s Pet-a-Palooza held at Boettcher Park on Sept. 12.

People said it was fun because there was so much going on —  Pat Cook gave an obedience class and there were contests, said Sharon Hawke, vice president of the MVAS board.

MVAS offered microchipping for dogs for $20 at the event - they normally charge $25 at the shelter. They had many folks asking questions about the procedure, and two people had their canine friends microchipped.

Pet-a-Palooza was one of MVAS’ major fundraisers for the year, and it educates the public about what the shelter does, according to Guy Knepp, an MVAS board member.

New to the area, Knepp is enthusiastic about the shelter. He suggested the diamond dig because it had been very popular in his former community. Although they had 44 digs, no one found the $400 sparkler, Hawke said.

Pet-a-Palooza and Spayghetti and No Meatballs will be MVAS’ two main fundraisers next year. They’re both new events this year and popular, bringing in about $3,000 each to help support the shelter.

At the end of the event, Reverend Connie Sidebottom performed a blessing of the animals, and each dog received a St. Francis medal for his or her collar.
