Polson

POLSON — The Lady Pirates captured first place in the north with their 3-0 shutout over Libby on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

“The girls are playing well together,” Coach Michael Hewston said.

“Our goals came after three, four, sometimes five passes.”

While Polson had 29 shots on goal to Libby’s four, the Lady Pirates only landed three in the net as the Lady Logger goal keeper earned 13 saves.

“I have to give credit to Libby’s goal keeper. We spent a great deal of time on the attacking third and she had numerous great saves,” Hewston said.

Lady Pirate Marina Mayorga scored the first and only goal in the first half at 22:00. Early in the second half Hannah Hobbs scored her first goal of the season at 38:00, assisted by Tiara Duford, who had all three assists in the game. JaNessa Taylor adding the icing with Polson’s final score at 54:00.

On Saturday the Lady Pirates hosted Bigfork’s Valkyries, and goal keeper Ashley Benson completed her first varsity start with 6-0 shut out. Tiara Duford scored four goals and Marina Mayorga and Hanna Kasnitz adding one goal apiece.

“The core four group (Hewston, Hobbs, Clarke, and Sisler) played good defense in the shut out as well,” Hewston said. “They played well side-to-side, which really opened up the attack the attacking group was able to put together.”

Tiara scored her third hat trick of the year with assistance from Ashley Howell.

“When those two get going they are really hard to stop and they were successful against the Bigfork defense,” Hewston said.

The team hosted Libby for Senior Night and will finish the regular season in Columbia Falls on Thursday at 3 p.m.
