News from Division of Fire, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes

FLATHEAD RESEVATION — The Flathead Reservation had two fires Monday, Oct. 12.  Both fires were started from unattended campfires, according to C.T. Camel, fire management specialist. The first was the Dryfork Fire west of Lonepine. It’s one-quarter acre in size and in patrol status. The second fire was the Mile Marker 8 Fire off of Highway 28 just north of Rainbow Lake. It’s 15 acres in size with multiple resources and 53 people on site as of today, Oct. 13.

The Division of Fire urges hunters and campers to be very cautious with campfires. Campfires should not be left unattended at any time until they are cool to the touch. When debris burning you need to pay attention to the weather forecast and have the proper tools, water, equipment, etc., on site at all times.
