POLSON—Golden shovels dug into the dirt as St. Luke Community Healthcare representatives broke ground on a new primary care facility on Thursday with a price tag of $2.5 million.
The site is located on the hill a few buildings below the Mission Valley Aquatic Center. The backside of the clinic will overlook Flathead Lake. With 10,000 square feet of space, the new clinic will accommodate a growing list of patients. The current clinic will stay open to allow St. Luke to hire more physicians.
“We’ve been bursting at the seams (in the old space),” St. Luke CEO Steve Todd said. “The combination of having a population growth in the area and incredible physicians caused us to need more space. We are always looking for ways to improve.”
Dr. Paul Gochis plans to move his family practice to the facility when it’s finished next summer.
“We will have room for three physicians and one physician’s assistant,” he said. “We will also have a physical therapy department and room for (a) visiting specialist.”
St. Luke did some research before they decided to build a new clinic.
“In the surveys, we found that there is a need for more primary care in this area,” he said. “We saw this as a way to augment existing services and add additional services to the community.”
