Montana Judges elect Judge Christopher

News from the Montana Judges Association

FAIRMONT — Twentieth Judicial District Judge Deborah “Kim” Christopher has been elected president of the Montana Judges’ Association. 

Christopher is only the second district judge elected to the Twentieth Judicial District comprised of Lake and Sanders counties where she is in her third term having served more than 14 years. 

She is the first judge from this district to serve as president of the Montana Judges’ Association. 

Christopher was elected in a vote at the organization’s annual meeting in Fairmont on Oct. 14.

“Like the judges who have served honorably before me, it is a privilege to receive my fellow judges’ vote of confidence in representing them as President of the association for the next year,” Christopher said.

Christopher has been a member of the Rules of Civil Procedure Commission, the education and bench book committees of the Montana Judges’ Association and held all of the offices of the organization. She was previously the Lake County Attorney and was serving as officer in the Montana County Attorney’s Association prior to her election as District Judge. She is a U.S. Army Veteran (Desert Storm) who served as an attorney for the Judge Advocate 

General’s Corps. She received her wings from the U.S. Army Infantry’s School’s Airborne Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. She is a Polson native and daughter of Richard and Corinne Christopher. She received her undergraduate and law school degree at University of Montana where she also enjoyed representing the University as Homecoming Queen and the first female ball girl after she completed her athletics with the U of M. 

Members of the Montana Judges’ Association include active and retired Montana District Court judges, water judges, workers’ compensation judges and Montana Supreme Court Justices.

The president also acts as a liaison with the Alberta Provincial Judges of Canada and Christopher represented Montana at the Alberta judges’ biannual meeting in Banff, Alberta, in October. 

The Association is a nonprofit organization that aims to improve the efficiency and quality of the judicial system, continue education and provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas. judges to exchange information and ideas.

The group meets twice annually for continued education and also works with judicial officers, attorneys, law faculty, government administrators, legislators, schools and members of the public. The president also acts as a liaison with the Alberta Provincial Judges of Canada and Christopher represented Montana at the Alberta judges’ biannual meeting in Banff, Alberta in October.
