Rodeo contestants compete in Butte

BUTTE — Fifteen men and women from Lake County competed at the NRA/NWRA rodeo finals in Butte Oct. 8-10. While none of the local contestants ended the year in the top three, competitors put up a fight through three rounds. The average of three rounds determined the overall winners.
Although Abby Knight of Charlo’s third round 19.38 barrel race put her out of the running for final placing, she logged two great runs the first two rounds, going 14.40 and 14.90 seconds respectively while earning the top stop for each round and $700 each for those two rides.
In steer wrestling, Will Powell of St. Ignatius came in fourth place in round two with a 4.9 second score.
Charles Lytle of Arlee had two 69.5 saddle bronc rides, with one in the second round earning a fourth-place finish.
Callie Otoupalik of Arlee finished fourth in round two of breakaway roping with a score of 3.2.
