ARLEE – Sally Cordier decided that the theme for the Arlee Parade of Lights would be about peace this year.

“Because of all that is going on in the world with violence, I thought it should be ‘Let your light shine for world peace,’” she said. “Every year I come up with something to do with lights because this is a parade of lights.”

And this year it was a warm 37 degrees.

“Last year it was 17 degrees,” she said. “It was too cold, so we didn’t have that big of a turnout.”

Eight vehicles including several emergency response trucks wound around town Saturday night. The crowd of people that gathered to watch helped make the parade a bit longer by following the vehicles with glow sticks in their hands.

Fifty luminaries lined the parade route.

Skyler Paul, 16, dug up anything he could find at his house with lights on it and put them on the only float in the parade to kick off the Christmas season. His float contained a row of lit candy canes, several illuminated cartoon characters and a Christmas tree.

“I’ve been in this every year since I was 8,” he said adding that his cheeks did get a bit cold as he rode on the float.

After the parade, folks enjoyed gingerbread cookies and other treats in front of a fire at the Brown building.
