POLSON – Marlo Aldia Tonasket, 36, was placed in custody Wednesday, Dec. 9 for his alleged involvement with an incident where an officer believed he was about to be shot.

A Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy was getting ready for work on Sunday, Nov. 22. At around 5 a.m. the deputy walked out to his plainly-marked patrol vehicle at his home when he noticed a red dot on his chest.

“He took cover, thinking he could be shot,” Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said. “We still don’t know if the red dot was a laser or a weapon.”

After assessing the situation, the deputy pursued a car containing three people involved in the incident. The Lake County Sheriff’s department joined in the pursuit along with Flathead Tribal Police. The pursuit lasted about 10 minutes on gravel roads with speeds reaching up to 80 mph. The suspects were stopped in Pablo on Frontage Road, but Tonasket fled on foot.

Matthew Manyhides of Polson was arrested for outstanding warrants for felony possession of drugs and driving under the influence. A female passenger was detained for purposes of investigation but later released.

Tonasket was found about two weeks after the incident while deputies were investigating another crime. He was arrested for outstanding warrants from Shoshone County, Idaho for possession of stolen property.
