ARLEE – A record number of chocolate creations filled the tables at the 12th annual Chocolate Lovers’ Festival on Wednesday.

“We had 41 entries this year,” said event coordinator Shannon Patton, adding that many of the entries were in the youth category. “It was absolutely fabulous to see so many.”

Patton gave credit to new Arlee High School Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Leslie Jackson for helping to get more kids involved.

“She made this part of her curriculum, so more kids were able to participate,” Patton said.

People attending the event lined up to taste each treat and choose their favorite with the option of bidding on an identical item during the auction. The event brought in about $3,000, which will be dispersed to local youth programs and the Jocko Valley Library.

“The bids weren’t as high this year, so we didn’t raise as much money as we have in the past, but it was still a success,” she said. “We had many new faces (at the event), and it was packed.”

Patton is guessing that next year the event might need to be moved to a bigger location. For years, the Brown Building had enough space.

“If we have that many people again, we will need to move it,” she said.

In the tasting contest for best chocolate creation, Marsha Stindt took Best of Show and first place, Deanna Weaver received second place, Isaac Desjarlais placed third. Natalie Yocum and Tyler Brown received Best of Show in the Young Adult category. Tucker Brown was given Best of Show for children.
