News from St. Ignatius Neighborhood Watch

ST. IGNATIUS — Mothers in need and their children will soon be able to find respite in the Nest. Jen Blumberg, director of the new nonprofit entity, said the home at 410 St. Mary’s Drive in St. Ignatius is being transformed into a transitional living home with supportive services and should be fully staffed in April.

Blumberg made the announcement at a meeting of the St. Ignatius Area Neighborhood Watch March 15. The Nest will house up to three women and their children. Stays at The Nest are expected to range from six months to two years. Residents will receive assistance in learning domestic skills including cooking and gardening, Blumberg said. They will also get help finding job training, she added. Blumberg said The Nest will be especially beneficial for moms and children who need a safe and nurturing environment. Parenting classes will also be available to community members, she said.

The Nest will not be a drug and alcohol treatment program, Blumberg said, and there will be no soda pop or television.

The Nest received generous gifts from anonymous donors that provided the funds to purchase and operate the home for a year.  Continued operation of The Nest will depend on financial donations and grants. Donations of things like clothes and diapers are also welcome.

For more information about the Nest, call Blumberg at 406-546-0199 or go on line to nestmontana@gmail.com.

Also at the Neighborhood Watch meeting, discussion was held about the raffle of a large beadwork art piece donated by Doris Snyder. The piece depicts an eagle a mountain lion and a wolf. Tickets are on sale at Valley Bank in St. Ignatius and from Neighborhood Watch members. The ticket price is $1 each or six for $5.

A representative from Blackfoot Telecommunications is scheduled to address the next Neighborhood Watch meeting, which will be held April 21 at 7 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center. For more information about Neighborhood Watch, call St. Ignatius chapter president Daren Incashola at 406-992-2734.
