POLSON — A $9,690 check from Plum Creek Timber Company Foundation will “basically upgrade the editing system” for The Polson News Network according to supervising teacher Clay Herring, Polson Middle School. PMS students would also like the equipment for live broadcasts, Herring added, and may be able to afford now.

Polson School Board trustee John Laimbeer wrote the Plum Creek grant and submitted it.

The Plum Creek foundation, according to Steve Robbins, resource manager of the Montana Unit of Plum Creek Timber Company, solicits grant applications from different organizations via the company website. Teams within Plum Creek meet to scrutinize the grants to make sure they meet the main criterion, that monies will “help the communities in which we also work and live,” Robbins explained.

Polson News Network is grateful to Plum Creek, Herring said.

Students have asked mentor Frank Tyro, from Salish Kootenai College TV, to help them make the most efficient use of their money.
