News from the Area VI Agency on Aging

LAKE AND SANDERS COUNTY — Area VI Agency on Aging continues to offer classes to meet the needs indicated by calls we receive looking for help. In April and May we have the following classes scheduled in Lake, Sanders, and Mineral Counties:

“Powerful Tools for Caregivers” is a six session, 90-minutes weekly series of classes designed to help caregivers with the many physical, social, and emotional challenges they face. It is well known that very often caregivers become ill or even die before the person they are caring for, simply because they ignore their own needs. Classes in Hot Springs are on Tuesdays, April 12 – May 17, 1:30-3 p.m. at the Preston Town County Library meeting room. (Participants are welcome to come even if they did not attend the first class.) The sessions will be led by Jane Morton from Area VI and Erin Ault, director of the Sanders County Council on Aging. The regular fee is $50, however we can charge on a sliding scale based on income. There is also funding available to reimburse those who want to pay for respite care for their loved one so they can attend the classes. Please call Jane at 883-7284 or 1-800-266-4188 for more information or to register.

“Medicare Basics” is a one-day, 3-hour class to help those near to starting Medicare learn about the parts and options of Medicare. There are decisions to be made and late penalties to be avoided. This class is designed for those nearing Medicare eligibility due to age (nearing 65) or disability (24 months on Social Security Disability Income). However anyone who wants to understand their Medicare better is welcome. Classes are planned in Polson on April 27, in Plains on May 5, and in Superior in May 11. Time of the classes is 1-4 p.m.. Please call Jane at 406-83-7284 or 1-800-266-4188 for information or to sign up. The fee for this class is $30.
