Northern has been part of SkillsUSA since 1972, and has hosted 44 of the 45 state conferences, according to Greg Kegel, MSU-Northern Chancellor. “In the last five years we have really expanded the number of competitions that promote leadership as opposed to just technical skills,” Kegel said. “We present the winners with scholarships to Northern, and they are often among the best students on our campus.”

Since its beginning, SkillsUSA, has been a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure that America continues to have skilled workers joining the workforce. The national organization has served more than 11.2 million members since its founding in 1965.
