POLSON - Although small, the Two Eagle River School track and field team has a chance to be competitive in Class C, according to Head Coach Jaimie Stevenson. Not only are these athletes talented, but they are willing to do anything for their team.

“We have a lot of students that are game to try new events,” Stevenson said. “This really brings up the morale of the team.”

On Saturday, April 16 at the Dave Tripp Invitational in Polson the Eagles got the chance to check out this year’s competition. Stevenson said that this meet is like a “mini districts” because it is a compilation of teams that the Eagles will compete against at the end of their season. Junior Danielle Adler was sizing up her competition, but was also keeping a keen eye on their technique.

“I like to watch other athletes that are better than me because I can learn from them,” Adler said. “I have self-taught myself in the shot-put just from watching.”

Adler, who placed third in the shot-put with a throw of 29 feet and 3 inches, will be traveling to Australia in July to compete in a program called Down Under Sports. She will be working on her shot-put while she is there and is hoping to get exposure to new tips for training.

“I am die hard for shot-put,” Adler said. “I think I could be pretty good if I keep working, which is why I am going to Australia.”

Adler enjoys the support of her teammates, Kyra Aimsback and Alexia Parizeau, while she prepares for her throwing events.

“Track is an individual sport,” Adler said, “but if it wasn’t for my team, I would have no support. We rely on each other since we are such a small team.”

Aimsback agreed that when she can hear her teammates words of encouragement, it gives her that extra push.

“When I am tired and almost to the finish line, knowing my friends are there helps me finish,” Aimsback said.

Socializing at track meets is just as important as the running events, according to Parizeau.

“Track gives me a social life on weekends,” Parizeau said. “I get to meet new people and it also gets me out of bed on Saturday mornings.”

Stevenson is looking forward to watching her team improve, especially after a lot of hard work at practices.

“We have been doing a lot of strength training and conditioning,” Stevenson said. “We need to work on our endurance, but the team is putting in a lot of work.”
