ARLEE – The greeting is a bit different as you walk in the door.

“G’day,” Susan Triscari says to folks walking into her shop. The welcoming word also happens to be part of the name of the shop on Pow Wow Road and Highway 93, behind the rose gates next to the bread shop.

Part of the name of the shop is pronounced with the “g” as in good and the word day, but it’s not to be confused with g-day, and the word Montana is tacked on the end, so the name of the shop is G’day Montana.

“It’s the Australian way of saying ‘hello,’” she said.

Originally from Australia, Triscari incorporates an “international flair” into the shop that opened in January. She has lived in the United States for years but still has a slight Australian accent.

The shop contains “an eclectic international mix” of items. Including food products from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Australia. Packages of biscuits — or cookies, as they are known in the U.S. — line the shelves.

“I have Australian cookies, and this spread is also from Australia,” she said holding a jar of Vegemite. “It’s an acquired taste. Most Americans don’t like it. I had one brave American buy some.”

Lollies are also available in the shop.

“Those are candies,” she explained. “What Americans call candies are called lollies in England.”

The same tea flavor that the Queen of England drinks is also on the shelves in the shop.

“It’s a loose leaf tea,” she said.

And, that is not the only kind of tea. Montana made tea, more loose tea, and bag teas are available. Customers can also purchase a cup of brewed tea.

“I’m getting known as the Tea Lady,” she said. “Roy in the bakery started calling me that and it stuck.”

The small shop has several other items including Montana made things like T-shirts with the shop’s G’day Montana logo, handmade soaps, jewelry, and pots.

“I want to be a fun mix of everything,” she said.

Triscari is also holding fun events at the shop. She recently brought in a famous watercolor artist that painted the many works on the wall. She plans to have more events in the future.

G’day Montana is open Tuesday through Saturday on the same days as the bread shop. She can be found on Facebook at G’day Montana Shoppe.
