ST. IGNATIUS — The CSKT Early Childhood Services will be expanding their services this fall when the doors of a new language nest will open for 10-15 infants in the newborn-to-3-year-old age range. The language nest is designed to provide Salish language instruction to strengthen the children’s sense of belonging by strengthening their cultural identity. Made possible with the award of a three year grant from the federal ANA program, the new language nest will be located in St. Ignatius next door to the Longhouse, and will be accepting applications for enrollment towards the end of this summer. Parents who would like their 0 to 3 year olds to participate in the Salish Language Nest must commit themselves to learn new language skills to keep pace with their children’s growth so Salish can be spoken in the home as well as the Nest. If you are interested in the Salish Language Nest please join us for an evening around the campfire Tuesday, May 31 at 6 p.m. at the Agnes Vanderburg Camp in Valley Creek. Supper will be served. This will be the first of many meetings as we formulate Nest plans.
