News from the Lake County Job Service Employer Committee

POLSON — The Lake County Job Service Employer Committee recognized the 2016 Employer of Choice winners at their spring workshop at the Polson Red Lion Inn and Suites on Friday, May 6. This award recognizes a small, medium, and large scale business that demonstrate a high level of commitment to their employees and the surrounding community.

The Cove Deli & Pizza, winner of the small-scale business award, was recognized for the high priority they place on family values in the workplace and their involvement in the community. Mission Valley Power was chosen as the midsized Employer of Choice due in part for the benefits they offer to their staff and their focus on employee safety, health, and wellness both in the office and in the field. The committee chose Glacier Bank in the large-scale business category because of the professional development and growth offered to their staff, the atmosphere of team camaraderie in the workplace, and their dedication to giving back to the community.

JSEC is an advisory committee comprised of area employers and representatives from the Job Service with the goal of identifying and addressing the needs of the business community. JSEC offers numerous services to the community including low-cost educational seminars, newsletters with pertinent information for employers, career enhancement and employment activities, Employer of Choice awards and two $1,000 the Ken Rohrenbach Scholarships for graduating seniors.

Membership to JSEC is free and businesses throughout Lake County are encouraged to participate. The nomination process for the 2017 JSEC Employer of Choice awards will open in January. For questions about participating in JSEC and/or the awards process, please contact Lynn Lagerquist at llagerquist@mt.gov or follow them on Facebook: LakeCountyJSEC.

The theme of JSEC’s Spring Workshop was customer service. Jeri Mae Rowley, a nationally-recognized customer service expert and part of the third generation of her family’s world-famous Idaho saddle maker shop, spoke to an audience of more than 50 representatives from 19 area businesses. Her theme, “Saddle Up for Service,” included observations about running her family’s saddle shop in a small town combined with customer service tips from award-winning businesses from across the United States. Proceeds from the workshop fund the Ken Rohrenbach Scholarship.
