William A. Longpre

LANTANA, TEXAS — William A. Longpre, 83, of Lantana, Texas, formerly of Missoula, died of natural causes March 27 at the Medical Center of Lewisville, Texas.

Born March 10, 1933, in Missoula to William Longpre and Lena Marceau, he graduated from Gonzaga High School and attended Carroll College. Prior to joining the US Navy, he worked in a clinical laboratory and as a blood bank technician. After joining the US Navy he worked at Naval hospitals in the United States, Japan, and aboard several vessels. During his US Naval service he sailed to numerous ports of call around the world, completed six tours in Vietnam and advanced through the ranks to Chief Hospital Corpsman (CPO). William retired in October 1974 after 20 years of service.

William’s adopted son Kim Oehmichen, of Lantana, Texas, survives him.

Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, at St. Francis Xavier Church with Father Carver as celebrant. A reception will immediately follow the mass at the church and the internment is scheduled at 2 p.m. at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery, 1911 Tower Street in Missoula with military honors.

A tree will be planted in memory of William at the Dallas Arboretum, a place that he often visited and loved. In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations for this tree can be made to Dallas Arboretum, 8617 Garland Road, Dallas, Texas, 75218. The donation must state “In the name of a tree for William Longpre” or contact Kim at kjo1409@ live.com.
