POLSON – Envision Polson continues to work toward goals and desires following a community assessment. Here is an update from the following committees. Youth and Education The Boys and Girls Club will be hosting their annual Mud Run fundraiser on July 16 at the Polson Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to noon. Teams are encouraged to register at flatheadbgc.org or call 406-676-5437. Dr. Lowell Tyler needs help and materials to build the course Saturday, July 9 and Sunday July 10 starting at 7:30 a.m. Contact him week days at 883-5623. Event volunteers are also needed. Contact Michal Delgado at michali@blackfoot.net or 370-8913. Beautification Committee The Beautification Committee is pleased to report a successful Clean Up Green Up event this year. An idea that spun off from this event is a program in conjunction with the Sheriff Bell to offer non-violent offenders the opportunity to work off their sentences through community service in lieu of jail time. This is a win-win as our community will reap the benefits of more regular beautification efforts, and these folks will get an opportunity to contribute to their community in a positive way. The Beautification Committee is also planning to have a big presence in the Fourth of July Parade to highlight all this committee and its volunteers do throughout the year. Economic Development Committee On June 20th, the City’s Economic Development Council presented their findings and recommendations to the City Commission on ways to improve Polson’s streets. Ideas include a local resort tax and a street improvement levy. City residents are eligible to vote. Ned Cooney from the Montana Non-Profit Association gave an outstanding presentation on Essentials of Board Service, a program sponsored by Lake County Community Development. Watch for notices of another workshop of this nature in the future, as there were 45 people in attendance and a waiting list of those interested in attending the next session. Interesting news from the County Commissioners, as they are currently looking into the possibility of building a community event center at the Polson Fairgrounds. And finally, Polson was selected to be the location selected for the Montana Economic Development Association annual meeting in October. We will be welcoming economic development partners from across the state of Montana at this two-day
